Where it all Began
..Neva Speaks
Well, no one asked me for a list of my favs so I have to assume my list is irrelevant. But music is not irrelevant to me nor is my list, so I made one up anyway—and to hell with everyone else. At the risk of looking completely shallow and musically naive, I’m going to submit it for publication. My list does not include any country songs or albums or any folk songs. Both of those genres are very much a part of my musical taste and I listen to country almost as much as I listen to rock. My taste in music pretty much stops with the 80s. I don’t listen to the new stuff—it just doesn’t speak to me. I am more comfortable with music from the 40s, 50s 60s and 70s – a classic case of arrested development no doubt. Nevertheless, I stand by my selections with head held high and a song in my heart (and head).
I have music playing in my head ALWAYS. I wake up at night with a song going through my mind. I know not what triggers the memory of a particular song, but one is always there when I awaken. I wake up in the morning with a song going through my brain. I wake up in the middle of the night with a song playing in my head. For instance I woke up last night with ―Alexander’s Ragtime Band‖ playing in my head. Where did that come from? I’ll never know. But as I lay there listening to the song and singing the words in my mind (yes, I know the words to that song) I was reminded of the 1941 movie, ―The Strawberry Blonde‖ with Rita Hayworth, Jimmy Cagney, Olivia Dehavilland, and Jack Carson (George Reeves even appeared in it, though at the moment, I can’t remember anything about his part.) Well, anyway, whenever there is silence no matter what time of day or night, I have music in my head.
